Voice of BC's Professional Bed & Breakfast Industry

MediaRelease 2013 MT award

Parksville, BC – The BC Bed & Breakfast B&Bkeepers Guild recognized Nanaimo innkeeper Gordie Robinson with its highest honor at their conference and annual general meeting in Victoria this week. The Moyra Turner Hospitality Award has been awarded annually since 2002 and recognizes the member innkeeper who best exhibits hospitality, and who best promotes the concept of hospitality. Nominations for the Moyra Turner Hospitality Award require affirmation of exemplary hospitality by guests or other Guild members.

Gordie Robinson, along with wife Janice, has owned and operated Long Lake Waterfront Bed & Breakfast for 6 years.  After retiring from a 34 year career with Shaw Cable, Gordie realized he wanted to stay busy and active.  When they found a Bed & Breakfast for sale on Long Lake, they dove right in, into the B&B business that is, and are enjoying a second successful career welcoming guests from all around the world.  Aside from running the B&B, Gordie’s other passion sees him out on the waters around Nanaimo as a Coxswain with the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue.  He feels that giving back to the community in keeping the public safe on the water, and being on the water, is a perfect balance in his life.

Long Lake Waterfront Bed & Breakfast is a private luxury retreat at the end of the road on Ferntree Place, and provides 3 spacious self-contained waterfront suites.   A delicious full breakfast is served in the upstairs lounge each morning.  Gordie and Janice are not new to receiving awards, as Long Lake Waterfront B&B received a 2012 Travelers’ Choice award from TripAdvisor, and a 2013 Certificate of Excellence, which puts the B&B in the top-performing 10% of all businesses worldwide on Trip Advisor.

This is the second time Nanaimo innkeepers have been awarded the Moyra Turner Hospitality award, as Flying Cloud Bed & Breakfast innkeepers Vivian and Neil Reinhart were recipients of this award in 2010, and the fifth time that the award has resided with Vancouver Island innkeepers.

Join our 100+ members throughout BC in congratulating Gordie Robinson on his continued excellence in the hospitality industry, and find Long Lake Waterfront B&B at the end of the road for your next accommodation needs in Nanaimo BC.
