The 22nd Annual Celebration of Light fireworks festival will brighten Vancouver’s evening skies starting at 10:00 PM on July 28 and August 1 & 4, 2012.
This year’s event, the biggest in the Greater Vancouver area, is expected to draw over a million total spectators over the course of the three nights, so you will want to reserve your lodging well ahead of time.
Vancouver Fireworks Competition Offers International Flair (and Flare)
The spectacular pyrotechnic shows, which began in 1990, have grown to become the largest off-shore fireworks competition in the world.
Vancouver locals and visitors alike gather at English Bay, Sunset Beach, Vanier Park and other vantage points to watch the skies light up with professionally choreographed fireworks displays, each synchronized to an inspiring music soundtrack simulcast on Shore 104.3 FM. General admission is free and paid VIP passes are available.
The competitors at this year’s festival hail from Southeast Asia, South America and Europe.
Vietnam: Team DanangJuly 28 Team Danang has presented numerous stunning firework shows for over 20 years for events such as National Day, Lunar New Year celebrations and other important events and festivals in Vietnam. Although they are experienced in international competition since 2008, this is the first time Team Danang has competed outside their home country. |

Votes will be collected online and the Celebration of Light winner will be announced on August 6.
Fireworks Are the Focus of This Famous Vancouver Event, But There’s Much More to Enjoy
The fireworks displays start promptly at 10:00 PM, rain or shine, each day of this event, but there’s a whole lot more to this festival than pyrotechnics.
Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach, located between Thurlow and Bute Streets at the mouth of False Creek is the scenic, sandy center of activities happening before each night’s Celebration of Light display. These events and activities start at 2:00 PM each day of the Festival.
Cultural Celebrations
The cultures of the competing countries, Vietnam (July 28), Brazil (August 1) and Italy (August 4) will be highlighted with cultural dancing and on-stage performances.
SHOREFest: Rogue Stage at Sunset Beach
Enjoy some of Canada’s top Blues, Folk, and Roots, bands and performers, sponsored by Shore 104.3 FM.
Sports
Sunset Beach will offer volleyball, soccer, and bocce ball tournament play for participants who sign up.
NBA 3X (June 28 & 29 Only)
The NBA 3X Tournament features top NBA stars and allows local children of all ages to participate in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament.
