Since 1896, the Ladner Pioneer May Days celebration has reminded visitors of the city’s historic roots. The tradition continues and is a terrific family event with entertainment and activities for all ages. This year’s event runs May 28 through May 30 and features live bands, May pole dancing, the crowning of a May Queen, a craft fair, a fastball tournament, magicians, jugglers, balloon artists, a petting zoo, a carnival with all your favorite rides, and a mouth watering food fair. Don’t miss the parade through Ladner Village on Sunday at noon.
Just two weeks after Pioneer Days, come and enjoy the season’s first Ladner Village Market Day June 13 when a three block long open air market with over 140 vendors from all over the southern province offer their wares, rain or shine. Market Days will return June 27, July 11 and 25, August 8 and 22 and again September 12. Vendors are changed each time so the Sunday market is never the same twice. Wear your walking shoes and be prepared to shop till you drop surrounded by fresh produce, plants and garden accessories, hand-made jewelery, soaps, crafts and much more. Once you’ve worn out your shoes and need a great place to relax and refresh for the next days’ fun be sure to check out the many excellent area B&Bs available through the BC Bed and Breakfast B&Bkeepers Guild.
