Situated at the north end of the Saanich Peninsula on Vancouver Island, North Saanich provides one of the most desirable areas in Canada, surrounded as it is on three sides by 40kms of ocean shoreline and noted for quality of lifestyle and a mild climate. Located approximately 30 minutes from Victoria, North Saanich lies between sun warmed Patricia Bay and the Strait of Georgia which is dotted with the Gulf Islands. The area is home to lavender farms with sheep grazing in nearby fields where fertile farms grow vegetables, blueberries, strawberries and daffodils. There are numerous orchards, a cider house, several vineyards and a very fine gin that is also produced locally.
Probably the most well known of the attractions is the world famous Butchart Gardens, 53 hectares of beautiful gardens, open all year round. However, there is so much more to see and do in North Saanich, and wonderful North Saanich accommodations from which to explore it all. From the charming seaside town of Sidney, ferries leave for Anacortes and the San Juan Islands in the USA, and from Swartz Bay, ferries go to Vancouver on BC’s mainland. Victoria International Airport is only 15 minutes from Sidney. There are excellent golf courses as well as whale watching and kayaking and numerous marinas around the Saanich peninsula. For the gourmet, there are vineyard bistros or cider house meals as well as a wide selection of restaurants in Sidney or Brentwood Bay. Easily accessible and the gateway to Vancouver Island, certainly this is a destination that is sure to please everyone.
