Miles of pristine waterways complete with secret coves and hideaways, eagles above and marine life below, snow capped mountain peaks, all welcome you to the Shuswap Region. One of the largest cities in the region, and the economic hub, is Salmon Arm on the shores of Shuswap Lake. Salmon Arm is really a four season tourist destination.
The area offers many lakes for fishing and Shuswap Lake, as the largest, is ideal for leisurely cruising on a houseboat. On land, you can bask in the sun on one of the many sandy beaches, play 18 holes of golf, enjoy an afternoon of wine touring or visiting a heritage site, museum or festival. The surrounding mountains provide endless trails for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Mount Ida is a popular, if steep, hike that rewards the hiker with several lookouts. The uplands of Larch Hills and the Fly Hills become great snowmobiling and cross country skiing destinations in winter.
Birdwatching in Salmon Arm is also a major attraction for visitors to the Shuswap. This northern Okanagan region is also home to numerous vineyards, farming and fruit orchards. Your Salmon Arm Bed and Breakfast operators will tell you it is the perfect vacation destination, away from it all, where you can snowmobile in the morning and play golf in the afternoon.
